About

Who I am

My name is Lucy (she/her) and I am a qualified person-centred counsellor.

My work focuses on creating a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected, and able to explore what’s going on for you in a way that feels right for you.

My wider training has included psychodynamic, systemic, and narrative perspectives, which help inform my understanding, while keeping the work rooted in a person-centred approach. My aim is to offer a supportive and flexible space where we can explore your concerns and work towards meaningful change together.

My Approach

I approach counselling with genuine curiosity and value each person's unique journey. Creating a space where you feel heard, validated, and understood is central to my work, and I aim to support you in navigating life’s challenges with greater confidence and resilience.

I am a LGBTQ+ friendly and neurodivergent affirming practitioner and encourage conversations on how I can make the counselling space work for you.

“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.”
— Alexander Den Heijer

A Safe and Supportive Space

I offer a warm, empathetic, and non-judgemental space where you can bring your whole self. I take care to create an environment where you feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged or misunderstood.

Having been a client myself, I understand that coming to counselling can feel daunting, especially at the beginning. I aim to help you feel at ease and welcome any questions or concerns you may have, so that the counselling space feels supportive and works for you.

How I Can Help

You might come to counselling with a specific concern, or simply a sense that things feel overwhelming or stuck. I offer space to slow things down, explore what’s been going on for you, and consider what you might need moving forward, in a way that feels supportive and manageable.

Our work together isn’t about quick fixes or being told what to do. It’s about making sense of your experiences, noticing patterns in your life and relationships, and gently bringing attention to things that may have been difficult to look at or easy to avoid. I’ll support you in developing your own understanding and finding a way forward that feels right for you.

Experience

My journey to making counselling my career certainly was not linear, but it has led me to work in a way that feels meaningful and grounded. After completing my Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, I now work with clients through my private practice and alongside this, within a local counselling service commissioned by the NHS.

Before training as a counsellor, I worked in a range of healthcare roles and I have spent nearly 10 years in HR within the financial sector. This experience has given me a strong foundation in communication, empathy, and an understanding of the pressures people can face in their working lives and wider systems.

Examples of Additional Training & Professional Development

As part of my role, I ensure that I prioritise my Continuing Professional Development (CPD). I have provided a few examples of CPD that I have completed below:

  • Working with Child Loss & Bereavement - The Alder Centre
  • Post-Qualifying Certificate in Relationship Counselling - Relate
  • Domestic Abuse Champions Training - Women’s Aid
  • Inequalities In and Barriers to Mental Health Services for Older People - PAC
  • Level 1 in Narrative Therapy - The Institute of Narrative Therapy
